Okay...niece Caroline's arrival to house and dog sit...check, house cleaned...check, bags packed...checked, bills paid...check, passport and tickets packed...check, car packed...Ready to go...goodbyes said...check...and we are off! John and I are en route along with Rebecca's boyfriend (Jason's) father to visit them in Tanzania. We will be joined by good friend, Russell and will meet in Nairobi to begin our adventure. We left Monson at 10 am and headed to Boston. Tom's sister was kind enough to let us park the car in Framingham and take us to the airport. We arrived in plenty of time, only to discover that one piece of luggage has been left at home...crap...too late now...that is just the prelim...Russell alerts us to the fact that our flight is delayed and we will miss our connection in Paris...crap...(he is flying separately)...okay, so after an interminable wait , we were re-ticketed on Turkish Airlines...will be getting in at 1 am into Nairobi instead of 9 p.m...then back to wait to be violated as we went through our security checks...finally through we grabbed a bite to eat at the airport's Durgin Park (it is Boston after all)...don't know if the food was good or it was the welcome glass of wine or the gnawing hunger...reasonably sated...again seated, settling down for yet another waiting game of boarding passes, filing to our assigned seats bleary-eyed craving shut-eye to prepare us for the inevitable jet lag that will accompany us to our final destination...despite our inauspicious beginning, we are sure to enjoy the exotic wildlife and flora, the sights and smells of new and fascinating cultures and not the least of which reunite with Rebecca and Jason after a long absence...looking forward to exploring the world that they have immersed themselves in, meeting their friends and co-workers, and allowing them to guide us to untold adventures...it's 11:30 p.m. And as we get ready to board, here's hoping for a safe and memorable journey...mpaka baadaye...until later...crap again!!! Flight delayed for 45 minutes...that is gonna be a tight connection in Istanbul...I'll keep you posted!
